The Power Of Silence On A Date

Silence is useful

Have you ever really wanted to get to know someone properly? If so, the next time you go on a date try and stay silent at just the right moment and what you may find is you will find your date speaking from their heart giving you greater insight into who they really are. It doesn’t matter how relaxed a person you may be, dating is a nerve-wracking process. When people are auditioning people for the role of life partner, you can bet there is going to be a certain level of nervousness.

Silence is useful

For many people simply being nervous results in them ending up babbling because of the sheer fear of an awkward silence on a date, leave alone the need to take a moment to breathe. It is important to take a step back and realise that a very useful technique for going out on dates is that allowing for a little pause between phrases can be quite useful. How people respond to the spaces between topics tells you a lot about their character.

Take a moment

Just taking a little time out in the middle of a robust conversation does not mean someone has nothing to say. Instead it indicates the person is taking the time to digest what their date has been saying to them. It is also an opportunity to consider what you wish to reveal next or ask. Smart people understand the power of listening in all situations whether it is on a date or at a work meeting. Listening allows you to determine how compatible you are with your date because it gives you the opportunity to tune into not just what they are saying but how they are saying it.

Catch your breath

Silence is an extremely powerful act. Silence in it of itself shows just how comfortable a person is within themselves. By this we don’t mean giving someone the cold shoulder or waiting the appropriate period of time before replying to a text. Instead silence should be used as a tool to establish a much deeper level of communication. Always remember your date is probably just as nervous as you are, they are also wearing their hearts on their sleeve and have high hopes. That is why you should allow a little room for to catch your breath and take stock because you will probably be surprised by what you may learn.
